Dr. Şükriye Ruhi started her career at METU as an English teacher in 1978. She is currently Professor of Linguistics in the Department of Foreign Language Education, where she teaches pragmatics, psycholinguistics, cultural linguistics, Turkish linguistics, and introductory courses in linguistics. She has published widely in the fields of Turkish pragmatics, discourse analysis and cognitive linguistics. Since 2001 her major research interests lie in politeness theory and face, metaphor and self in Turkish, cultural linguistics, and corpus linguistics.
